Schwinn’s German engineering background has helped put it on the map as one of the top bicycle makers in the United States. The Schwinn Crest Urban Womens Hybrid Bike is a bit more expensive than the Schwinn Discover Womens Hybrid Bike (a very solid hybrdi bike for women). Is this higher pricetag worth it and what do you get? Here’s our review:

Schwinn Crest Urban Womens Hybrid Bike Product Description
The Schwinn Crest Urban Womens Hybrid Bike is a very nicely engineered hybrid bike for women. The higher price tag merits this – very sturdy frame for cycling on just about any surface comfortably. Whether you’re riding to work or simply cruising around the city running errands, the Schwinn Crest is engineered for a very comfortable ride.
The 700cc wheels are substantial and can handle any dips or cracks or rivets in the road. For comfort, the adjustable handlebars allow for upright riding positions. Features SR Suntour front suspension fork to assist in the bumpy rides. Gear shifting is fairly easy for the flat and hilly rides with the Shimano TX-31 rear derailleur and SRAM 21-speed grip shifters. Other features include an SR Suntour front derailleur, an alloy adjustable stem with a 30mm rise comfort bar, and alloy linear pull brakes.
Schwinn Crest Urban Womens Hybrid Bike PROS AND CONS
- Substantial wheels stand up to cracks and dips in the road
- Features shocks on the front wheel and under the seat – makes for a smooth ride over many different surfaces and even small potholes.
- Wide comfortable seat with alloy post
- Good pedals (metallic vs. cheap plastics)
- Many things adjustable to help you ride in great comfort!
- Be prepared to tweak and tighten a few things upon receiving the hybrid bicycle
- Shifting can be a bit sticky/harsh with the twist-grip gear system. Could be easier to shift
- A bit on the heavier side
Overall, if this is out of your budget, the Schwinn Discover Womens Hybrid Bike costs less and is almost the same quality. However, if you have the budget for it, this is a great long term investment in a hybrid bike. Durable and solid, and very “tweakable” so you can ride in ultimate comfort. The Schwinn Crest Urban Womens Hybrid Bike is a great smooth ride – one of the best hybrid bikes for women. Definitely need to look at this one.
What Buyers Are Saying
“I just returned from the first 20 mile ride on this bike and I must say it was great. I have always had men’s bikes(10 speeds & mountain bikes) and this is my first woman’s bike. I am 5’5″ and it fits me perfectly. The gearing is great for urban riding and I can ride in a more upright position, something I could not do on my mountain bike. I find the fenders and rear rack a real plus. My husband assembled the bike in about half an hour and with a little tweeking of the derailleurs it was ready to go. My old bike had thumb shifters which I prefer but I will get used to the twist shift. I don’t think that you will be disappointed with this bike …(READ MORE)”
“I believe this is a great bike for the price, IF you want a commuter bike. Looking for a lightweight road demon, find something else. It is a heavy bike, but for a daily commute in the city, you should want that. Honestly, you won’t find a bike like this for the price in other places. The shifting can be harsh, and I’m sure the components are not as nice as you would get with another bike. BUT, the tradeoff is a bike that can handle your daily life. I’ve had very little trouble with this bike… (READ MORE)”
“My wife and I decided to purchase bikes to expand our exercise options. After looking at several options, we decided to purchase both a Men’s and Women’s version of this bike and we couldn’t be happier. They’re relatively lightweight and the components all appear to be of fairly high quality for a bike priced in this range. The limited assembly was easy. It would have been nice if Schwinn had included a couple of allen wrenches, and maybe a pouch to carry them in, since that is the tool most often needed for assembly and adjustments. We have been riding for a couple of weeks now and really like the way the bikes handle. Most of our riding is on pavement, but we have ridden on some gravel/dirt roads, and the “Hybrid” tires performed well. My wife and I agree that this is definitely a great bike for the price… (READ MORE)”
