Schwinn Crest Urban Mens Hybrid Bike Product Description
Schwinn has been manufacturing durable quality bikes for years. For hybrid bikes, the Schwinn Crest Urban Men’s Hybrid Bike is a smooth ride whether you are commuting, running errands, or just cruising around the streets. Shimano is a good name (not great name) in drive train, and Schwinn features them in their 21-speed shifters. Wheels are 700cc rims and 700 x 38c hybrid tires, perfect for hybrid bikes: thinner than mountain tires but sturdier than your road bike.
Features a 17-inch aluminum hybrid frame and for smoothness over bumpy terrain a Suntour front suspension fork: lightweight and fairly responsive on rebound for smooth ride. Built with alloy linear pull brakes – responsive and little fade. Overall, a pretty good and responsive hybrid bicycle.
Schwinn Crest Urban Mens Hybrid Bike PROS AND CONS
- The bike is packaged well for good protection and comes almost fully assembled.
- The cables are protected well from the frame
- Gear shifting is surprisingly smooth
- Assembly, though relatively easy according to many reviewers, still may be challenging to the inexperienced. Fortunately, Schwinn’s website has some good assembly videos to help out
- Mixed reviews on the hybrid tire durability. Some owners state no problems with the occasional offroading while others warn that you may end up with flats – either way, consider putting a liner in the tire and replaced the cheap tubes with inner tubes made with a heavier outer side.
- Check the fenders, sometimes they need some adjusting so as not to wear on the tires
- Not super quality, but for a price of less than $500 you are getting some good quality components
This is a great bike for casual riding. Super hybrid bicycle aficionados may get picky about the quality of the parts, but for the price range you are going to be hard pressed to find much better than the Schwinn Crest Urban (both the men and the women’s version of the Schwinn Crest Urban. Not a bad choice at all and easy to assemble according to most owners to get you out the door quickly after you receive the bike!
What Buyers Are Saying
“I primarily wanted a relatively lightweight , solidly built frame and this bike has it. I recently compared this model to a few local bike shop products that cost $200+ more than the Schwinn. The overall workmanship/fit and finish of the Schwinn holds up well compared to the popular models I saw. The bike is equipped with bike shop quality components, albeit not the high end, that will generally perform quite well. This bike is comparable, for the average, casual road or paved trail rider, to much more expensive bikes I’ve looked at and ridden. Nice surprise for less than Bike shop prices…(READ MORE)”
“This is not a ‘premium’ bike you see in a bike shop which cost above $500. Nor is this one of those cheap heavy bikes you find in Walmart or Target. This is something in between. I use it daily to commute to work ( 3.5 miles round trip ). Also use it to do groceries on weekends. I have two paniers which fit perfectly on the bikes storage rack. All in all a good commuter bike. It requires limited assembly though it took me almost 6 hours to assemble it mainly because I spent a lot of time reading the manual. But this is because it is my first time assembling a bike… (READ MORE)”
“My wife and I decided to purchase bikes to expand our exercise options. After looking at several options, we decided to purchase both a Men’s and Women’s version of this bike and we couldn’t be happier. They’re relatively lightweight and the components all appear to be of fairly high quality for a bike priced in this range. The limited assembly was easy. We are amazed at how those gears smooth out the hills. Most of our riding is on pavement, but we have ridden on some gravel/dirt roads, and the “Hybrid” tires performed well. My wife and I agree that this is definitely a great bike for the price…(READ MORE)”
